Teachers Are More Precious Than Any Treasure!

Teachers are not just ‘preachers’. They are truly the most precious ‘Treasure’. True, indeed, because no materialistic treasure in the world is equivalent to a teacher, as it is the teacher who has the lion’s share in moulding our lives. Teachers are like the light-house in the sea which steers us in the right direction of our life.  Without the guidance of a teacher, our life may go erratic and we may end up ruining our lives and turn notorious. Hence, Indian culture reveres the teacher as a ‘Guru’ or ‘Acharya’

Bharat Ratna Awardee, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was India’s First Vice- President and Second President of independent India and a scholar, dedicated all his success and glory to his teachers. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan always celebrated his birthday, September 5, with his teachers as a mark of respect to his teachers’ gigantic contribution in his life. Since then, September 5 has been celebrated as Teachers’ Day all over India.

On Teachers, Day, students in schools and colleges pay their humble tribute to teachers. Besides, even students who have turned into celebrities and have become famous in their respective fields remember their teachers on this day and proudly announce to the world how their teachers changed their lives. For instance, on every Teachers’ Day, renowned cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar pays homage to his cricket mentor, Guru Ramakant Achrekar.

Teachers are thus Almighty’s greatest gift to mankind as teachers selflessly nurture us like a tender sapling and take care until we grow in stature to dizzying heights and are ready to guide the future of our nation through education. However, it is tragic that today the position of a teacher is hijacked by modern technology. In the age of the Internet and Google search engine, students have lost connect with teachers as maximum students find answers to their doubts online through Google.

Due to dependence on the internet, the new generation’s thinking ability and reasoning power have been eroded. Both, the parents and the modern education system are responsible for this disgrace because we encourage our children to use the mobile, tab and internet.  During the summer vacation, we ask them to do online courses, owing to which children prefer to study at home on the computer and, for namesake, attend schools/ colleges. Thus, the ball is in our court (i.e. the parents).  We need to bring out our children from the horrors of mobile and computer and instill in them the respect and significance of teachers. We need to urge our children to be more laborious. Compel them to attend schools/ colleges. Develop interest in reading textbooks and preparing their own notes and avoiding tailor-made answers from the internet.

Home Times wishes all teachers a Happy Teachers’ Day and urges parents to imbibe admiration for teachers in their children or else in future students would forget teachers and instead worship the mobile, tab and laptop on every Guru Purnima or Teachers’ Day!!!
