RTO Paints Thermoplastic Striping on the Accident-Prone EEH

Mulund: The Eastern Express Highway (EEH) has earned the dubious distinction of ‘Killer Highway’ due to the tremendous increase in the number of accidents on this highway over the past few years. Home Times has been consistently reporting the accidents and voicing its concern to make the highway safe. Home Times had also spoken several times to the concerned RTO officers and the civic body to employ protective measures to control the increasing accidents on EEH, particularly on the paths which are accident-prone like the dangerous curves and at the turning points.
After repeated follow-ups and constant pressure, Home Times’ drive against the ‘Killer Highway’ has eventually succeeded in waking the administration which has decided to take the issue seriously. In its first step to control the accidents, RTO has finally decided to apply ‘Thermoplastic Striping’ between the most deadly and accident-prone zone from Navghar flyover in Mulund East to Godrej Company at Vikhroli East. In addition to the Thermoplastic Striping, RTO has also placed glittering flashers before the dividers at the start of the flyover so that the drivers are alert about dividers and slow their speed to avoid accidents.
Pundalik Kayagude,
Senior Traffic Police Inspector, told Home Times, “We have been working on the protective measures ever since Home Times brought to light the accident-prone spots and the reason behind the accidents on EEH. We have thus painted thermoplastic striping on this dangerous zone.”
Informing about the importance of Thermoplastic Striping, Pundlik Kayagude informed, “The highlight of the White Coloured Thermoplastic Striping is that the glass beads used in the material make the stripes strongly reflective and visible at night. Hence, it helps to control the speed of vehicles which would indirectly avoid accidents.”
Pundlik Kayagude candidly confessed, “Actually, we too noticed many accidents on the same spots on the EEH but what is tragic is that drivers do not learn a lesson. They drive at jet speed without bothering about any danger and end up in accidents. Hence, we have now put blinkers or flashers on the accident-prone two spots on the EEH so that drivers can notice and drive carefully”
