Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious growing health problem affecting around 10% of the world’s population. It is a disorder in which the kidneys are not able to filter blood efficiently. If not diagnosed and treated in time, CKD can lead to permanent kidney failure. There are 5 stages of kidney damage from very mild to final kidney failure.
Symptoms of CKD:
Nausea and vomiting
Swelling in ankles, feet and sometimes on face
Muscle cramps
Frequent itching
Low appetite
Disturbed sleep
Shortness of breath
Feeling weak and tired
High blood pressure
If the above symptoms are very prominent or frequent, do the following tests to understand which stage is the kidney damage:
Blood test for creatinine and eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate)
Urine test for protein and ACR (albumin to creatinine ratio)
Blood pressure
