GARDENS BECOMING GAMBLING DENS!!
AFTER SENIOR CITIZENS, TEENS GAMBLE IN MULUND’S GARDENS
Many gardens/ playgrounds in Mulund are in a dismal state due to utter neglect or there is no one to maintain them. Recently, Home Times had exposed the gambling activities in the afternoon at Vijay Garden whereafter senior citizens had refrained from gambling there. Still, one can see crowds which include groups of teenagers who gamble in the morning and consume alcohol in the quietude of the afternoon at this venue.
It is a fact that many playgrounds in Mulund are equipped with open gyms, swings for kids and other games equipment. However, a playground like Vijay Garden as also others has become the favourite haunt for gamblers who have senior citizens and teenagers as regular members.
Gardens and playgrounds have been created for children and senior citizens to relax, breathe fresh air, stroll and play. But, it seems, children play in these gardens only in the evenings, thereby leaving them deserted in the afternoons when senior citizens, teenagers, collegians and the unemployed form groups and indulge in gambling activities. Though the garden is shut in the afternoon, these gamblers surreptitiously enter the garden by climbing the rear wall despite the presence of security staff. If the present generation inculcates these bad habits in the younger generation then surely the coming generation will go astray. If some ladies are to believe, formerly only senior citizens used to frequent this garden, but presently one can see young college crowds boozing openly. The local corporate as well as the Garden Dept. officials have been alerted about these nefarious activities on many occasions but to no avail. Hey! Anyone listening???
