Another safety wall collapses in Mulund; No casualty!
The incessant rains continued to unleash havoc for the second consecutive week in Mulund. This week, again, a safety wall collapsed. The wall of the MTNL office on Madan Mohan Malviya Road in Mulund West collapsed on Monday morning. However, unlike last week where a watchman died in a wall collapse at Model Town in Mulund West, this week no casualty was reported.
According to eye-witnesses, on Monday morning, Mulund witnessed heavy rains and this caused huge inconvenience not only to the residents, but it also unleashed havoc on trees and dilapidated walls. Pictures of nullahs and gutters overflowing was a common sight all over Mulund. Amidst such heavy downpour, a dilapidated safety wall of the MTNL office collapsed, taking the pedestrians by surprise. Though nobody was injured, but the vehicles parked near the wall did sustain minor damage.
Heaving a huge sigh of relief, a Mulundkar said, “The wall was close to the footpath. It is fortunate that the wall collapsed when nobody was walking on the footpath. The footpath is used by little kids who daily go to a playgroup school located close to the footpath. In addition, many senior citizens, too, come for morning walks and use the same footpath on which the wall collapsed. Truly, a major calamity was averted as the wall collapsed at a time when the footpath was deserted.”
The collapse of the safety wall has proved troublesome for the senior citizens coming her for their morning walk, because the wall was a protection to stop stray dogs encroaching upon the road from an opposite open ground. Radha Doshi, a senior citizen lady lamented, “After the demolition of the wall, stray dogs from the opposite playground have started intruding upon the road and cause trouble. These dogs hunt for food and fight among themselves. This poses a huge problem for old people walking on the footpath.” “The civic body should clean the debris of broken wall soon and erect the safety wall at the earliest,” she demanded.
