JEWEL THIEF NABBED AFTER 30 YEARS!!!

Mulund: “Crime never pays” goes an oft-quoted English axiom which holds true even today. It seems the accused, Dilip Manohar Patel, a notorious bandit, had looted a Mulund jeweller 30 years back and escaped. The fugitive, Dilip Patel, was hiding from the police for 30 long years and was under the illusion that the Mumbai police would never nab him. But, the long arm of the law eventually grabbed him and proved that, indeed, crime never pays!!

It may be noted Dilip Manohar Patel (55), with his co-accused, had looted Nutan Jewellers at J.N. Road in Mulund West on 11 October 1987. The gang of five had entered the shop equipped with weapons and, at knife-point, had stolen 960 grams of gold jewellery. When a shop employee tried to foil the robbery bid, he was brutally assaulted. After the gang absconded, a fear among the Jeweller community had gripped Mulund for many months.

On April 16, 2018, Tuesday, Unit VII sleuths of the Crime Branch arrested prime accused Dilip Patel and his gang of five aides. Informing the media, the police said, “In 1998, the court had released Dilip Patel and his aides on bail. But, after bail, Dilip Patel did not appear in court and became a fugitive. There were several warrants issued, but Dilip was untraceable.” “When he escaped, he was 25 years old,” informed the officer.

Ever since Dilip Patel was on the run, the police were on its toes and keeping an account of his movements. Finally, the hard work of the police paid dividends as Crime Branch VII cell eventually got a cue from an informer about the hideout of the main accused, who was hiding at Kalol village in Panchmahal district of Gujarat.

On receiving the information, the Crime Branch sleuths, under the guidance of Satish Taware, reached the village and nabbed Dilip Patel!!!  Others who were part of the team included Mahesh Patankar (Sub-Inspector), Suresh Salunkhe and Santosh Jadhav.
