Home Times Exposes BMC’s Negligence!!

New Footpath ‘Damaged’ Within 40 Days! Many Senior Citizens Stumble!

BMC workers are renowned for their laxity and half-hearted poor-quality work. Home Times herein exposes an instance of the negligent work of BMC. According to reports, a footpath near Jigna Apartment at Gavanpada in Mulund East has been renovated just 40 days back by BMC but, alas, due to the inferior quality material used and the careless work of the BMC workers, the new footpath has become damaged. Its paver blocks have moved apart. As a result, the footpath has become uneven. Thus, the residents are disappointed and senior citizens, in particular, are facing great difficulty to walk over it. In fact, several senior citizens have even stumbled and injured themselves!!!

A senior citizen told Home Times, “It is difficult to commute on the footpath as it’s broken everywhere. It is ill-maintained and bumpy, thus it makes walking difficult for aged people. There are also reports of many senior citizens who have stumbled and injured.” He added, “BMC spends crores of rupees on the road, side stripe and footpath work, but it is tragic that the senior engineers ignore the poor quality of material being used in such work. The Gavanpada footpath is an ideal example of how Mumbaikars’ hard-earned tax money is drained away by the inferior quality work.”

Suresh Rajpal, a shopkeeper told Home Times, “Some 4-5 months back, the condition of the footpath was so pathetic that Home Times had published about it. After that, BMC repaired the footpath but, regrettably, BMC workers did such a negligent work that, just after 40 days, the condition of the footpath has turned pitiable. The paver blocks have begun to move apart. Thus, due to the bumpiness, many senior citizens have been reported to have fallen down and injured themselves.”

He lamented, “The footpath has also developed cracks and these cracks have become the dwelling of rats. Due to the nuisance of these rats, many nearby shopkeepers like me are having great trouble.”

Irked residents told Home Times that when they lodged a complaint with the Maintenance Department at T-Ward, they assured them to repair the footpath next week.

When Home Times took the matter with Rajani Keni, the local corporator, she said, “I will inspect the footpath and take appropriate action at the earliest.”
