CRICKET FIELD TRAGEDY
The death of a young cricket player, Vaibhav Kesarkar (24), on the cricket field spread gloom in the ground at Bhandup where he was playing a local tennis ball cricket tournament.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident happened on Sunday, 23 December 2018, when Vaibhav Kesarkar was representing Gavadevi Packers Team in the tournament. An eyewitness told Home Times, “Vaibhav Kesarkar was a batsman and quite renowned in tennis cricket circle. When he came to bat on the field there was jubiliation but, alas, he suffered pain in his chest. Hence, he retired and went back to the pavilion. However, when the team fielded, he came to field, but the pain did not cease. Nevertheless, he fielded bearing the pain. But, when the pain went out of control, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, during treatment, he collapsed.”
Dr. Satyen Bhavsar, who attended Vaibhav told the media, “While playing cricket Vaibhav complained of pain in his chest and he was rushed to our hospital. However, during treatment, while we were taking his ECG, he suffered a heart attack and died.” He added, “The death of a healthy cricketer like Vaibhav depicts that these days probably the changing lifestyle is taking a huge toll on the youngsters.”
Rohan, a close friend of Vaibhav told Home Times, “The death of Vaibhav is an unbearable loss. He was passionate about cricket since childhood. Vaibhav had completed his Class XII and was working in a private company. Since he was a cricket enthusiast, he continued playing cricket. He was an prolific batsman and an athletic fielder. He was a big asset to his team and was very popular in tennis cricket.”
Vaibhav Kesarkar has left behind 2 elder brothers and his mother.
Rise in death at an early age
There has been a steady rise in deaths among young people and that, too, in sports and arts.A month back, a 14-year-old girl died while dancing at CM Chashak 2018 at Kandivali.
Similarly, a fortnight back, a 19-year old boy, Jibin Sunny, died playing tug-of-war at K. J. Somaiya College in Vidyavihar. Thus, the death of Vaibhav Kesarkar is the third instance. Hence, parents are advised by health experts to take proper care of the health of their children. Doctors opine that fast food, not maintaining the right timetable for eating food and lack of exercise are the reasons behind a heart attack at an early age.
