A DOSE OF GANDHIGIRI FOR KISHORE GANDHI!!

Yesterday, dis-gruntled Mulundkars assembled outside BMC T-Ward office in a show of strength to demand the ouster of Asst. Municipal Commr. T-Ward, Kishore Gandhi for his inept handling of the illegal hawkers problem.

Beleaguered Mulundkars, fed up with the rampant encroachment of footpaths and roads by illegal hawkers, demanded that Kishore Gandhi is replaced if he fails to evict the illegal hawkers by March 1, 2019. This ultimatum was given to Gandhi yesterday. The agitators threatened to intensify their agitation if no concrete is taken by Gandhi and his team by then.

“Kishore Gandhi Go Back” and “Enough is Enough” were mentioned prominently in the petition presented to Gandhi. If the hawkers have not been cleared off Mulund’s roads, then the citizens would prevail upon the Municipal Commissioner to replace Gandhi. The protesters included many eminent ladies and gents. At the time of handing over the petition to Gandhi, Mulundkars beseeched Gandhi with folded hands to make the footpaths and roads fit for smooth travel.

It is common knowledge that prominent roads like RRT Road, MG Road, JN Road and Zaver Road have been encroached upon by these hawkers, making it impossible for motorists, pedestrians as also residents to traverse easily. Sharad Ram Sejpal of Rasta Bachao Kriti Samiti avers that hawkers have become a headache for Mulundkars with the blessings of BMC T-Ward. They have taken the liberty of parking their businesses in 2-3 rows much to the chagrin of the locals. It may be admitted, though, that initially BMC did act sternly and results were, indeed, seen. But now, things are back to square one. Even the High Court’s orders have been flouted with impunity” he said.

Mulund resident, Jyoti Wad, told Home Times, “We do not let anyone sit here, but now a Khau Gully has come up at the corner of Ganesh Gawde Road and Zaver Road. Senior citizens and children get disturbed because of the crowd and the din throughout the night. Also, food stalls have created filth here.

On the other hand, Asst. Commr. Kishore Gandhi has assured that strict action will be taken against the hawkers in accordance with the law within one week.
