On World Cerebral Palsy Day Specially-abled Children Play Garba!

Each year, World Cerebral Palsy Day is celebrated on October 6 across the world to create awareness and educate people about the disease.  NGOs and social organisations, through various events, attempt to bring about a social change among people and reduce the stigma attached to people affected with Cerebral Palsy.  This year, the day was celebrated in a unique style in Mulund where the specially-abled children played Garba and enjoyed the festival of Navratri.

The event was aptly titled ‘Little Wings’. It was organised by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Mulund South and held on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Golden Willows Society in Mulund West. Along with the kids, the parents of the children had also attended the event in large numbers. All the kids were dressed in the traditional colourful Garba attire and the kids danced to the tunes of the Garba beats sitting in their wheel-chairs.

A parent, delighted at the event, said, “It is an appreciable idea to organize a Garba for the specially-abled children. These children are also like normal kids but Destiny has been a little rude with them. Hence, these kids need society’s love and affection. I salute the Rotary Club for the great idea.”

Informing Home Times, District Governor Harjit Singh Talwar said, “The objective behind the event was to bring a little joy and happiness in the lives of these little children. I am glad the children enjoyed it. As the little kids played Garba, their faces lit with delight and their eyes shone with glee. Watching them have fun was a moment of utter contentment.”

The event was attended by Rotary Club of Mumbai Mulund South District Governor Harjit Singh Talwar, Dr. Aparna Padgaonkar (President) and Swati Apte (Secretary) along with many eminent personalities.
