World Cancer Day Celebrated With Free Cancer Detection Camp

On Monday, 4th February, the world celebrated World Cancer Day. In Mulund, Sanmitra Seva Mandal organised a Cancer Detection Camp exclusively for ladies at Vidyapati Nagar, P.K. Rd, Mulund West. The camp focused on breast cancer, one of the most common cancers among ladies but, alas, which goes unnoticed due to ladies’ hectic working schedule.

Jeevandas Phadke Secretary of Sanmitra Seva Mandal told Home Times, “These days, due to stiff competition, women are so tied up with their home chores and office work that they do not have time to look after their health. Hence, we decided to conduct an exclusive Medical Camp for ladies.” He added, “Many ladies feel embarrassed to speak about breast cancer and there are many who do not have the funds to undergo breast cancer check-up. Hence, we organised this free camp.

Mr Phadke, further informing about cancer in India said, “In India, breast cancer is rapidly increasing amongst young ladies. Generally, young ladies in their 30’s are being detected having breast cancer. In India, there are 27% ladies who are fighting breast cancer. The reason behind the rise in cancer is the changing modern lifestyle among Indian women.  According to statistics, 1 in every 28 ladies is suffering from some form of cancer. Hence, looking at the gravity of the ailment, our Sanmitra Seva Mandal organised a free Breast Detection Cancer Camp.”

It may be noted, besides detection of cancer, the camp also conducted Haemoglobin Test, Diabetes Test, Bone Density Test and other vital body organs tests.

Several ladies, both young and old, took advantage of this camp. IMA (Indian Medical Association) played a key role in the success of the camp. Eminent personalities present on the occasion were IMA’s Shantaram Shinde and Sunita Ranade. BJP corporators Samita Kamble and Manoj Kotak also attended the camp. Sanmitra Seva Mandal’s President, Ashok Agarwal, Vice-President Datta Marathe and Secretary Jeevandas Phadke got tremendous help from the IMA team.
