At long last, Parking lot at Marathon Towers inaugurated

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is truly cracking the whip against unauthorized parking and finding new vistas to solve the niggling traffic jam issues. After its innovative move to open parking lots at Mumbai’s 13 malls, the BMC T-Ward in Mulund has, eventually, after 3 years, opened its other parking lot for the public on the busy LBS Marg near Marathon Towers.

The decision has generated jubilation among the residents living in the vicinity of Marathon Towers in Mulund West because the residents were in real trouble due to the huge penalty imposed by RTO on illegal parking. Residents of this area claim they have been anticipating the inauguration of the civic parking lot for the past three years but, alas, either due to delay in floating the tenders or due to non-availability of contractors, the Parking lot remained closed despite completion.

Paras Thakker, a resident elated at the opening of the parking lot, told Home Times, “We have been waiting for 3 years the parking lot to start. Further, the recent RTO penalty of Rs 10,000/- acted as a dagger on our head. But with the opening of this parking lot, we have heaved a sigh of relief.” He added, “It’s just been 2 days of the opening of the parking lot but the rush is unbelievable. Everybody is parking their vehicles inside the parking lot. Earlier, the scene was pathetic as people parked their vehicles haphazardly on LBS Marg. As a result, pedestrians had great difficulty to walk or cross the road.”

The major feature of this parking lot is that it has a huge area. It is spread on four floors and can accommodate as much as 120 vehicles at one time. The charges for the parking are also nominal. Two-wheelers will have to pay just Rs. 500/- for a month while four-wheelers will be charged Rs 1,500/- for a month. The parking lot has received a tremendous response. The parking lot has just begun and the rush to park vehicles is admirable.

Home Times has a lion’s share in opening the parking lot!
Readers would be aware that Home Times, in some of its earlier editions, has been consistently pursuing the issue and urging the civic authority to start the parking lot to eliminate the traffic menace on LBS Marg. Better late than never, the BMC has awakened from its slumber and started the parking lot.

Home Times hopes the parking lot will play a pivotal role in decongesting traffic on LBS Marg.
