MSEDCL left stumped by Home Times!

On the one hand, the city is agitated by unscheduled power cuts as The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) claims there is the threat of energy crisis. On the other hand, Home Times has observed pure wastage of electricity with street lights ‘on’ even during the day! Further, what is most disappointing is that while other electricity companies have slashed their electricity tariffs, MSEDCL has increased its electricity tariff by a whopping 11%. Residents in Mulund-Bhandup and its suburbs who have to pay higher electricity bills are thus more infuriated by the MSEDCL’s negligence at the needless loss of valuable electricity!

Mulund residents complained to Home Times that the street light on Devidayal Road is left ‘on’ till late afternoon. A local resident told Home Times, “One can notice the street lights ‘on’ from BMC T-Ward Office till the Fire Brigade office till the end of the road.” In addition, residents from different parts of Mulund have brought to the notice of Home Times a large amount of the precious electrical energy is being wasted in Mulund owing to the negligence of MSEDCL officials. Besides Devidayal Road, Home Times has received complaints of street lights left ‘on’ during the day time at many places like Dr. R.P. Road, N.S. Road, etc.

Taking a jibe at MSEDCL, Deepak Ratnesh, a Mulund resident, told Home Times, “Interestingly, at some places, street lights are left glowing even during day time when the sun’s rays are blazing. In contrast, at some places where street lights are essential for the pedestrians to walk, they are ‘off’!! Due to non-functioning of street lights accidents occur and people face great inconvenience.”

Rishabh Sahu, a food vendor said, “The working of the street lights is unstable. Some days they are functioning normally and some days they are dead. This causes a lot of problem to motorists and people walking on the road. Our business is also affected.”

When Home Times confronted the MSEDCL officials about the illumination of a street light at day time, an official said, “We keep the street lights ‘illuminating’ intentionally as a few of our officials are on duty to check the working of street lights. However, when Home Times crossed-checked this statement of the MSEDCL officials, it found the statement to be FALSE!! When Home Times visited the spot where street lights are left illuminating at day time, its reporters found no MSEDCL officials inspecting the working of the street lights!

Thus, Home Times demands an answer from MSEDCL about the authenticity of the ‘inspection’ theory put forward by the MSEDCL officials or it is a means to escape the media by giving a fake reply???
