Chor Machaaye Shor!

In a broad daylight robbery in Mulund East, burglars escaped after decamping with jewellery worth Rs. 5 lakhs!  According to Navghar Police, the theft occurred at the residence of Mr Nikunj Karia who resides at Garuda Society, Bhoir Nagar, in Mulund East. At the time of the theft, Mr Nikunj was out of the house and the house was locked.

The police told the media that at about 12.30 p.m. Mr Nikunj and his family went out for some family gathering. However, after two and a half hours when they returned they were left aghast to witness the door lock broken and the house ransacked! Jewellery worth Rs. 5 lakhs was stolen from the locker.

Expressing shock at the theft, a resident of Bhoir Nagar said, “Generally, during the Ganesh Utsav festival, there is a spike in house-breaks as people go to their native places for celebrations. During this time thieves take advantage, but this year even before Ganesh festival thefts have started hence people are afraid.”

He informed, “What is surprising is that just 2 days back, robbers had looted a flat in the same Garuda Society and escaped. Despite the robbery, the building’s Managing Committee did not take the theft seriously!” Attacking the negligence of the police he said, “Even the police did not display swiftness though the robbers were caught in the building’s CCTV. In the second theft on Sunday, the robbers were fortunate that CCTV cameras were switched off, hence they could not be captured.”

The two consecutive robberies in a row have created panic and chaos among the residents. A resident informed Home Times, “People are panic-stricken as there has been a sudden spike in the number of theft cases in Mulund East region. On Friday, a minor boy was arrested by Navghar Police for stealing from two houses at Neelambari Building at Bhoir Nagar. Later, the boy was sent to a remand home.”

Navghar Police is under criticism with the spike in housebreaking and theft cases. The Police told the media, “We are trying our best and shall soon arrest the accused.”
