SambhajiRaje playground concretization work goes for a toss!

High Court extends Stay Order but asks BMC to file an application in the summer court, if it wishes to expedite the hearing.

The Bombay High Court which had put a Stay on the concretization work at SambhajiRaje playground till May 3, 2018, has extended the Stay and will hear the case after the summer break. Till then, the honourable judge, Justice Abhay Oka has ordered to stop all work at the ground. The learned judge, in his order, added that if the BMC wishes to expedite the matter, then BMC can file an application in the summer court.

It may be noted BMC and BJP Corporator Rajni Kini had launched an ambitious plan to give a major face-lift to SambhajiRaje playground by transforming it into a posh multi-sports hub at a whopping cost of Rs 7.5 cr. The ground was supposed to be renovated within four months but, shockingly, after the inauguration, more than four months are over and still the renovation work is in its primary stage. As a result, people are angry that they have been left in the lurch as they cannot enjoy their summer leisure time at the garden due to its dismal condition.
The ground boasted to have a mini sports hub with a court for different sports like cricket, football, basketball, kabaddi, kho-kho, long jump, etc. In fact, a skating track was also been planned for kids and yoga center for senior citizens. However, after the Stay Order by the High Court, the future of the ground has gone for a toss!
A local resident, PrathameshSoni, told Home Times, “It is very important that the case of the ground is solved soon or during monsoon the condition of the ground would become more pitiable. What’s more, all the work done till now will go waste! People should know that whatever amount is pumped into the project is the hard-earned money of the citizens. So, the big question is: How can BMC and the corporators blow up the money of the citizens so ruthlessly?”
It may be noted the Stay has been ordered by High Court as Shirish Shinde, Ex-MLA of Maharashtra NavnirmanSena (MNS) along with two local residents; Prakash Sawant and Vijay Pawar have filed a petition accusing the local BharatiyaJanta Party corporator, Rajni Kini of hijacking the greenery of Mulund East!
