Public Parking Zone Campaign Yields Results

After Nahur, BMC announces the opening of another Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar!

Kudos to Home Times as its incessant ‘Public Parking Zone Campaign’ to start civic parking zones in Mulund has yielded results. Encouraged by the success of the BMC Public Parking Zone at Subhash Nagar in Nahur Village, BMC has now announced to inaugurate another civic Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar in Mulund West.

Informing Home Times about the inauguration of the new Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar, BMC said, “The new Public Parking Zone will be inaugurated on Monday, December 10, 2018. It is a free Public Parking Zone for the people. It is being opened for three months on an experimental basis, but if it helps to solve the traffic issue of Mulund then it will be opened permanently.”

Readers may be aware that Home Times has been highlighting the traffic jam issue consistently for inaugurating the BMC Parking Zones to smoothen traffic issues. But, better late than never.Home Times has finally succeeded to convince BMC about the urgency to start the long ready but since lying abandoned Public Parking Zones in Mulund. Home Times hopes with the opening of these two Public Parking Zones, Mulundkars’ nightmarish traffic woes may lessen though not be eradicated completely!

Delighted at the inauguration of another Public Parking Zone a Mulundkar told Home Times, “I appreciate BMC’s decision to open another Parking Zone, because day by day the traffic has become a mounting problem. Earlier, from Check Naka to Kanjur Marg, it took 30 minutes to travel in a vehicle. However, with the increase in the number of vehicles on road, this distance rose to 50 minutes. But now, ever since the Metro work has started on LBS Marg, the travelling distance has escalated to a whopping 1 hour 30 minutes!!!”   He added, “The main reason behind the growing traffic problem is the haphazard and illegal parking of bikes and auto rickshaws on the road. But, with the opening of the two BMC Public Parking Zones I hope both auto drivers and motorists will understand their responsibility and use Public Parking Zones for parking. This should reduce the traffic jam issue to a large extent.”

When will BMC start the remaining 2 Public Parking Zones?

Though Mulundkars are elated at the opening of the New Parking Zone at Veena Nagar, yet they are waiting for the other 2 Public Parking Zones at LBS Marg and J.N. Road to start!

Mulund resident Rahul Khanna told Home Times, “At LBS Marg in Mulund West, a Public Parking Zone is ready at Montana Bldg. in Vasant Oscar Tower, but due to the laxity of BMC, this vital Public Parking Zone is not being started. Thus, people are angry. In addition, people are also annoyed at the ‘No Entry’ sign board on LBS Marg.”

Rahul further informed, “Due to no Parking Zone at LBS Marg, people park their vehicles illegally on the road. Hence, I urge the civic authorities to urgently open the Parking Zone so that illegal parking on the road and footpath on LBS Marg is stopped and people start parking their vehicles in Public Parking Zones.”

Another resident, Kirit Riyani told Home Times, “Behind LBS Marg, a cycle track is being constructed. As a result, we find many debris-filled vans being parked illegally on the roadside causing a traffic jam. Hence, I request the BMC to immediately appoint a contractor and start the LBS Public Parking Zone at the earliest.”

Like LBS Marg, J.N. Road is another busy road in Mulund West which is encroached upon by illegal parking by auto rickshaw drivers who occupy both sides of the road. Though BMC has announced to start the J.N. Road Public Parking Zone, but residents claim that BMC has just put up huge signboards on both sides of the Parking Zone but, alas, the Parking Zone is yet to start!!! Hence, illegal auto rickshaws pose a nuisance to pedestrians and motorists.
