POMP AND PAGEANTRY MARK MAHAVIR JAYANTI IN MULUND

The 2,618th Birth Anniversary of Lord Mahavir was ushered in grand style in Mulund on Wednesday, April 19, 2019 when an historic Rath Yatra was take out throughout Mulund under the aegis of Shree Mulund Jain Mahasangh. This Rath Yatra witnessed the august presence of Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis. Amrut Fadnavis participated in the special prayer ceremony invoking the blessings of Lord Mahavir. After seeking the blessings of the Jain saints, she released balloons inscribed with ‘ JAI MAHAVIR’ before flagging off the public procession. This historic event was also celebrated with utter devotion in Mumbai and its suburbs. In Mulund, the procession, laced with great pomp and pageantry, commenced at the Sarvodaya Nagar Derasar. This celebration was held under the able supervision of Shree Mulund Jain Mahasangh President, Shri Sukhraj Nahar. This grand event is being celebrated by the Mahasangh since the last 8 years. BJP leader and Lok Sabha candidate Shri Manoj Kotak also graced the occasion.

46 Jain associations of Mulund took out the impressive Rath Yatra on Mahavir Jayanti. Some school children were seen cycling in the procession, while other kids were playing the band. Jain ladies were seen atop trucks, chanting bhajans and kirtans. As per tradition, in the presence of singing and dancing, this grand Rath Yatra started from the Jain Derasar at Sarvoday Nagar and made its way through PK Road, Paanch Rasta, MG Road, Ganesh Gawde Road before terminating at Zaver Road’s Shree Mulund Shwetambar Murtipujak Jain Derasar. Jain Munis, in great numbers, also participated in this event. The Rath featured horse-drawn carriages and bullock carts, accompanied by young Jains waving religious flags in a congregation of utter bonhomie. Jain derasars everywhere were full of devout Jains offering prayers with sublime devotion. Mahavir Jayanti formed the perfect backdrop for Jain saints and Munis to impart the teachings of Lord Mahavir which are so relevant in today’s times also.
