HUBLI BUS MISHAP: Picnic turns into tragedy

The gruesome Hubli bus accident that killed at least 2 people and injured 26 on NH 63 in Karnataka was carrying a group of 40 people from Mulund, Bhandup, Ghatkopar and the suburbs. They were all on an 8-day picnic to Karnataka. The accident witnessed 2 people being killed from Bhandup and 4 people from Mulund having survived. The accident was so terrifying that a Mulund 2-year kid travelling on the bus with his mother is still experiencing psychological trauma.
The Gaikwad family, residents of Sarvodaya Nagar in Mulund West had a narrow escape. The family members, Shraddha Gambhir, her two sons and her mother were on the same bus. However, call it destiny, the entire family survived with minor injuries. Though the family was safe, 2-year old Ridan Gambhir got so petrified by the brutal accident that he still cannot get over the tragedy.

Shraddha Gambhir, recalling the horrifying accident, told Home Times, “We used to go for picnics each year. Like each year, this year, too, we had gone for a picnic. But, alas, this year’s picnic turned horrific. Thankfully, we were fortunate that my two sons and my mother survived.” She lamented, “Though we have survived the accident, it has had a great impact on my 2-year-old son, Ridan. He was so terrified by the accident that even today he is under stress and is not able to forget the nightmarish accident.”

The unfortunate accident 
According to reports, a group of 40 people from Mulund, Bhandup, Ghatkopar and the surrounding suburbs had gone to Karnataka for a 8-day long picnic. The group left Mumbai on November 11, 2018, by Udyan Express and had a great time watching the gigantic Bahubali monolith and the bewitching coastal scenery of Karnataka.

On November 17, 2018, the group started their journey from Hubli to Hampi early in the morning. However, near Dharwad, their bus turned turtle in a bid to overtake a truck. Six people were killed and 26 people were injured.

Postmortem of the dead performed in a farm 
Due to the ambulance not reaching on time, the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital located at Annigeri. Postmortem of the dead was performed in a nearby farm and the bodies were handed to their families.

Bhandup resident killed before attending family wedding
Bhandup residents,the Keluskars, had a wedding in their family. The family was to return on November 18, 2018 and then attend the wedding. However, before the wedding, the groom’s uncle, Lahu Keluskar (65) and his sister-in-law Sumedha Jamsandekar were killed in the brutal accident, thus turning the wedding joy into gloom.

Wife killed, husband seriously injured 
Retired teacher Suchitra Raul (65), a resident of Shivram Park in Bhandup, had gone to the picnic with her husband but, alas, she died in the accident while her husband was gravely injured.
