Disaster-in-Waiting at MHADA Colony Drainage Pumping Station!
Two drainage pumps at the drainage pumping station in MHADA colony at Mulund East are lying decayed and non-functional for 5 years. Also, the pump house office is in a dilapidated condition and hence the residents and the office staff are in a tight corner.
The condition of the drainage pumping station which disposes of the drainage of Mulund is in a pathetic state. The pumping house has three pumps but, alas, just one pump is in working condition while the remaining two are decayed and shut! In addition, the sheds and the office of the pumping station are dilapidated and on the verge of collapse. Hence, the staff working at the pumping station is working under stress with their lives at stake. An employee of the pumping station lamented, “We are afraid to work in this office as the infrastructure is in a pitiable state and can collapse any moment. We have made complaints to the senior officers several times but in vain. The officers give a deaf ear to our woes.”
A resident told Home Times, “Since the two pumps are not operational, hence sometimes the reverse line water flows over the road and this causes great inconvenience to the residents and the health of the people living in the vicinity.”
According to a source, the condition of the office of the pumping station is so grave that the government has declared it ‘dangerous’ and even pasted a notice declaring the pumping house office ‘Dangerous’. Yet the civic administration is turning Nelson’s Eye to this serious problem. Even the staff are aware of the danger-in-waiting but are forced to risk their lives to make a living.
Residents living in the area are worried. They claim if the third pump stops working then the processing of the drainage will stop and all the dirty water, filth and dirt will be scattered all over the road making life hell for the residents and the administration!!!
Home Times urges the concerned department to act on a war footing and repair the two defunct pumps and renovate the pumping house at the earliest!
