KALIDAS AUDITORIUM AREA IN WOEFUL STATE

The famous Kavi Kalidas Auditorium, spread across a large area, was renovated two years ago at a mammoth cost of Rs. 24 crores. Its inauguration at the hands of Shiv Sena supremo, Shri Uddhav Thackeray, saw much hullabaloo and fanfare. Two years have passed since its renovation in July two years back, which had led to much acrimony between two political parties then.

Regrettably, now the auditorium’s surrounding area is facing a host of problems. No people’s representative, administration or the concerned department is paying any heed to these woes. It seems, there was a huge pothole just at the entrance of the Natyamandir, which had caused great inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians alike. Recently, BMC T-Ward had levelled the pothole with tiles which had offered only temporary relief to theatre aficionados. Additionally, now even the cover on the sewerage gutter is missing! Instead of properly covering the gutter, a chair has been placed over it. Mosquitoes have started proliferating here owing to the monsoon. Quite a few similar woes are giving commuters a harrowing time. What’s more, last year there was a near fire mishap because of an electrical short circuit near the gate and bursting of firecrackers close to the renovated auditorium which had blackened the walls of the nearby areas. Regretfully, even now the walls have not been re-painted by the authorities. It’s anyone’s guess when BMC T-Ward and its concerned department will act in this matter. As of now, no answers.
