GIVING SHAPE TO DREAMS 13-Year Old Selected For U-16 MCA Team

A 13-year old daughter of an auto driver, has made Mulund proud as she has been selected in the U-16 team of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The girl, Divyanka Singh, told Home Times that cricket has been her passion since childhood and cricket sensation M.S. Dhoni is her idol. Informing about her passion for cricket, she said, “As a kid, I used to watch cricket on TV and I was deeply inspired by the helicopter shot of Indian cricket sensation, M.S. Dhoni. After watching Dhoni’s sensational batting, secretly within my heart, I began dreaming of playing cricket and becoming a cricket star like Dhoni.”

However, Divyanka Singh’s family had financial problems which were an impediment to her dreams. Her father, Harshavardhan Singh, makes an earning by driving an auto rickshaw. He hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Nobody in his family has ever played cricket. Hence, it was difficult to convince him.

Nevertheless, Divyanka cajoled her father and got herself admitted to a cricket academy. She said, “It was difficult to cajole my father because he makes a meagre earning. Hence, when I first requested my father to allow me to join a cricket academy, he declined. However, after he witnessed my passion and craze for cricket, he gave in.”

In 2016, Divyanka joined Kalidas Cricket Academy. She is an all-rounder. She is a left-handed batsman and right-handed bowler. She is currently practising under Coach Sanjay Gaitonde at the MCA ground at BKC for the U-16 girls team.
