PARKING ZONE OR GARBAGE BIN???
To seek a solution to the hue and cry over the traffic menace in Mulund, the civic administration had opened a Parking Zone in Mulund (E). But, surprisingly, this Parking Zone has been converted into a dust bin after Mulundkars have given a lukewarm response to this Parking Zone!!
It may be noted that in Mulund West the civic administration has made four Parking Zones. Out of these, the Veena Nagar Parking Zone was started for the public last December. But, like Mulund East, the condition of Veena Nagar Parking Zone is pathetic, as motorists are not showing interest in parking their vehicles inside the Parking Zone though the Parking Zone is free!!!
A Mulund East resident told Home Times, “The Parking Zone, unlike Veena Nagar Parking Zone, was not free but was Pay-N-Park. Though it was close to Mulund East station it was located in an awkward place and was also not designed perfectly. Hence, within 6 months of its inauguration, the Parking Zone was closed.” Informing about this odd design, he added, “The Parking Zone was located in a building behind the Shiv Sena office in Mulund East. A basement and first floor were reserved as Parking Zone. However, parking underground was difficult due to the slope of the ground being too steep. Hence, this led to accidents. Probably due to this the Parking Zone was shut.”
Kamat, another Mulund East resident told Home Times, “It has been 2 to 3 years when a Parking Zone was made in a building close to Mulund East railway station. The place was convenient as it was near the station. Hence, it was ideal for parking vehicles of those people who used vehicles to reach Mulund station and further commuted by the local train. But, somehow, the Parking Zone closed within 6 months of its operation. After this, neither did the people raise their voice for a Parking Zone in Mulund East nor the parking zone started. It is tragic and shameful that the Parking Zone has now turned into a GARBAGE BIN!”
